A cow made of butter. Few sights are more iconic at the Illinois State Fair than this buttery smooth bovine masterpiece. The butter cow was a MUST for Springfield Emojis, but the more we got to thinking about it we realized that we really didn't know all that much about the butter cow or butter in general. So, here are 10 facts about the Illinois State Fair butter cow:
1. The Illinois State Fair butter cow uses 500 lbs of butter.
2. 500 lbs of butter would butter just over 16,000 pieces of toast.
3. A person could make 60,000 chocolate cookies with the butter cow.
4. A properly refrigerated butter cow can last up to 6 weeks.
5. The Illinois State Fair butter cow has been the unofficial icon of the fair since the 1920's
6. Butter's evil cousin, margarine, was invented in the late 1800's by chemist Hippolyte Mege-Mouries after being challenged by Napoleon to create a cheap substitute to butter.
7. Butter was used in the mummification process by Egyptians.
8. Butter melts at 90-95 degrees Fahrenheit.
9. Butter is often colored with food coloring.
10. Butter was used in ancient Rome to smooth the skin and make hair shiny.
There ya go....you didn't need to know any of that...but it's kind of fun :)
Southeast High School's Serena Bolden recently placed 2nd in the nation in the Triple Jump Event at the USATF Junior Olympics that were held in Lawrence, Kansas. Serena is heading into her Junior year at Southeast, and with performances like that, Springfield Emojis thinks she is deserving of the title Super Woman! She also finished the Triple Jump with a jump of 41"2' and placed 5th in the nation in the Long Jump with a jump of 18"7. We're looking forward to big things from Serena...and more emojis. Well done :)
There are few figures in Springfield, Illinois that are more recognizable than the Chili Bowl Mullet Man. In fact, Springfield Emojis received more requests for this emoji than any other. If you don't already know, John Scoggins, AKA CBMM, is a young man with a distinctive, some would say iconic, hair cut. Just as it sounds, he has a chili bowl business front combined with a long, flowing, glorious party in the back mullet. The CBMM is known locally, but also has a bit of a national following after being featured on MTV's show Ridiculousness. He is known to walk around Springfield, but sightings of him are often rare, with more people knowing of him than actually seeing them with their own eyes. He is kind of Springfield, Illinois' own bigfoot. The man, the myth, the legend: Chili Bowl Mullet Man :)
Governor Bruce Rauner was recently photographed rollerblading through Millenium Park in Chicago and Springfield Emojis thought that deserved a little more attention :) Regardless of your politics, there is something admirable about a guy of Gov. Rauner's position who is willing to strap on some roller blades and take to the street. No word on the level of security or if they were in fact blading in the famous Flying V popularized by the movie The Mighty Ducks....but this is how we wish it would have looked :) You can find more about this story on Rich Miller's Capitol Fax website.
It appears as though OJ Simpson will be a free man come October. Hide yo kids, hide yo wife, the Juice....is loose. Pretty sure there aren't many people left in the "OJ is innocent" camp, but for good or bad our justice system has decided that OJ is ready to be a contributing member of society and for his sake we hope that is true. Everyone remembers where they were when that verdict was read and how split our society was on the verdict. Whelp, it's safe to say that most people think he killed those people now, but he will never be tried for those murders again...so let's hope he doesn't commit any more. Sometimes, all you can do is laugh :) Springfield Emojis created an image to commemorate the event. It's great for letting your friends know that you aren't interested. You're out....like OJ!
